The Virginia Department of Health (VDH), in partnership with the City of Harrisonburg, will provide a free drive-thru COVID-19 testing event that will be available until all tests have been utilized.
Testing will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for any interested individual on Thursday, July 9, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Testing will take place at Harrisonburg High School, 1001 Garbers Church Road. Drivers should follow signage to the south side of the campus to enter the testing area.
Any individual coming to be tested should wear a mask, if possible, and adhere to all social distancing recommendations.
Thursday’s testing event is an effort by City officials to bring more COVID-19 resources to residents and gain a better understanding of how COVID-19 is impacting our area. There is no cost to be tested. You will not have to present identification to be tested, though those administering the test will gather contact information in order to alert you to your test results in the following days. Notification of results, on average, takes five to seven days.
The City of Harrisonburg is urging all residents to follow VDH and Centers for Disease Control guidelines when it comes to responding to COVID-19. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or use the inside of your elbow. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid close contact with people who are sick, and stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care. Wear a mask when you go out. Put at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and other people at all times. Remember, even if you are not showing symptoms, you could still have COVID-19 and could pass it to someone else.
