The Real Estate Board of Equalization Public Hearings scheduled for March 17 through March 19 are being postponed. New dates will be determined and will be advertised within the guidelines of 58.1-3378.
Taxes Due and Deadlines
Appeal 2021 Real Estate Assessment Notice - Final deadline to file appeal is December 18, 2020.
Land may be eligible for special valuation and assessment. Forms are mailed in September, due date is November 1.
All Virginia Income Tax returns must be filed or postmarked by May 1.
The tax rate for the City of Harrisonburg is .86 cents per hundred of assessed value, effective July 1, 2019. This rate is subject to change annually. The tax rate is set by City Council and decided upon each year in April.
Tax Relief for the Elderly & Disabled applications are due.
Personal Property Taxes Due - The City of Harrisonburg levies a personal property tax on all taxable tangible personal property located in the City.
Parking permits are valid from July 1 to June 30 of the following year of purchase.
Individuals owning a dog within the City of Harrisonburg are required to obtain a dog license for each dog he/she owns pursuant Section 15-2-8 of the Harrisonburg City Code.
All business and professional operations must purchase a business license before commencing operation in the City of Harrisonburg, including home based businesses. Business License Renewals are due by March 1.
